Ab April 2026 soll in einem neuen Forschungsprojekt der Universität zu Köln ein mesoamerikanisches Schriftsystem erforscht werden, die sog. ‚epi-olmekische‘ oder Isthmus-Schrift. Die wenigen bekannten Inschriftenfunde dieses Schriftsystems stammen aus verschiedenen Fundorten rund um den Isthmus von Tehuantepec und datieren in den Zeitraum von ca. 400 v. Chr.–600 n. Chr. Bislang konnte dieses Schriftsystem nicht entziffert werden. Die größte Herausforderung für einen Entzifferungsversuch besteht in einem völligen Mangel mehrsprachiger Texte (Bilinguen, Trilinguen etc.). In meinem Vortrag werde ich einen Ansatz vorstellen, der das Potential bietet, auch ohne bekannte mehrsprachige Texte wissenschaftlich plausible (d. h., objektive, reproduzierbare und falsifizierbare) Lesungen im Inschriftencorpus mittels linguistischer Rekonstruktion zu erzielen. Auf sicherer methodischer Grundlage können konkrete Phrasen ermittelt und mit Zeichensequenzen der Isthmus-Schrift abgeglichen werden.

Nuestra Herencia is an audiovisual production created in close collaboration with the Indigenous Council of the Tacana People (CIPTA), the Tacana Women’s Indigenous Council (CIMTA), the Regional Council Isimane Mosetén (CRIM), the Organization of Indigenous Tacana Communities of Ballivián (OCITB), WCS Bolivia, and the University of Bonn, as part of the project Heritage and Territoriality. The documentary shares reflections and findings on what is considered heritage by the Tacana, Tsimane’, and Mosetén peoples. It portrays how these communities live, feel, and understand their heritage—what they value, protect, and hope to pass on to future generations. It is the outcome of more than three years of collaborative research carried out by Tacana, Tsimane’ and Mosetén researchers committed to memory, land, and conservation. Following the screening, we will have an open and informal round table with members of the project team and some special guest.
Los siglos previos a la conquista europea en el Río de la Plata estuvieron marcados por una intensa dinámica cultural que configuró el escenario étnico que los españoles encontraron al arribar a la región. A su vez, el primer siglo de contacto hispano-indígena fue decisivo para el desarrollo de la fase expansiva europea en América del Sur. Durante este período se delinearon los espacios coloniales cuya impronta aún hoy puede observarse en la región. Por otro lado, la llamada conquista española estuvo atravesada por una serie de imaginarios proyectados sobre las sociedades que influyeron en las motivaciones, expectativas y comportamientos de los conquistadores. En esta conferencia me propongo explorar este proceso prehispánico tardío y temprano colonial en el espacio del Río de la Plata desde una perspectiva arqueológica, antropológica e histórica, y analizar la interacción entre europeos y sociedades indígenas, poniendo especial atención en la agencia de estas últimas.
La ponencia presenta los avances de la investigación doctoral sobre el muralismo urbano en la ciudad de La Paz, Bolivia basada en un corpus de más de 1200 murales distribuidos en los siete macrodistritos. A partir de este material se identificaron siete temáticas que dialogan con factores sociales, festividades y prácticas culturales. La cartografía resultante permite comprender cómo los murales operan como dispositivos de comunicación contrahegemónica al visibilizar narrativas colectivas y transformar el espacio urbano en un escenario de memoria, resistencia e identidad. El estudio se articula en tres dimensiones: un mapeo territorial que evidencia la relación entre arte y territorialidad; un análisis de las representaciones de género e identidades colectivas; y la aplicación de neurociencia cognitiva, mediante colorimetría y eye-tracking, para identificar patrones de atención, tanto emotivos como perceptivos.

Filmvorführung: „Pühüka – Ein Initiationsritual der Mehinako am Oberen Xingu aus dem Jahr 2000“ Das Video dokumentiert ein außergewöhnliches und heute selten gewordenes Initiationsritual der Jungen im Dorf Uyapiuku im Oberen Xingu (Brasilien). Obwohl das rituelle Leben in dieser Region noch immer lebendig ist, wurde das Pühüka seit der Aufnahme – also seit 25 Jahren – im gesamten Xingu-Gebiet nicht mehr durchgeführt. Das Besondere an diesem Filmdokument ist sein Blick von innen: Der indigene Kameramann und Regisseur Aiuruá Mehinako, selbst aus dem Dorf Uyapiuku, führte die Kamera und wählte die Szenen aus. Auch die Edition erfolgte in enger Zusammenarbeit mit ihm – der Film kommt einer kulturellen Selbstrepräsentation nahe. Dr. Ulrike Prinz wird das Video, das während ihrer Feldforschung entstand, zeigen und über die Veränderungen sprechen, die das Dorf seit den 2000-er Jahren erfahren hat.
