Two films serve as a starting point for a discussion of an important genre within Indigenous cinema in Brazil: the film of denunciation. Two works by Indigenous filmmakers will be screened: Sukande Kasáká | Sick Land, by Kamikia Kisedje, and Levante Pela Terra, by Marcelo Kuhêxê Krahô. The two films engage in a dialogue with one another by addressing the struggle for the survival of Indigenous peoples in the face of the expansion of agribusiness and the issue of Indigenous land demarcation, which continues to be repeatedly postponed. More than that, both films are part of a generation of filmmakers who have found in cinema a means of expression, denunciation, and political struggle in defense of their peoples and territories. Since the late 1980s, audiovisual production has increasingly become an important tool of struggle for different Indigenous peoples in Brazil, and today it constitutes an established and increasingly consolidated field of Indigenous audiovisual production.
