DESCRIPTION:Two films serve as a starting point for a discussion of an imp
ortant genre within Indigenous cinema in Brazil: the film of denunciation.
Two works by Indigenous filmmakers will be screened: Sukande Kasáká | A
iling Land\, by Kamikia Kisedje\, and Levante Pela Terra\, by Marcelo Kuh
êxê Krahô. The two films engage in a dialogue with one another by addre
ssing the struggle for the survival of Indigenous peoples in the face of t
he expansion of agribusiness and the issue of Indigenous land demarcation\
, which continues to be repeatedly postponed. More than that\, both films
are part of a generation of filmmakers who have found in cinema a means of
expression\, denunciation\, and political struggle in defense of their pe
oples and territories. Since the late 1980s\, audiovisual production has i
ncreasingly become an important tool of struggle for different Indigenous
peoples in Brazil\, and today it constitutes an established and increasing
ly consolidated field of Indigenous audiovisual production.
