Vortrag von Prof. Dr. Gustavo Politis am Dies Academicus

What can we learn from the tropical rainforest hunter-gatherers of South America?

Still today, there are Indigenous hunter-gatherer groups living in the tropical rainforests of South America who maintain traditional lifeways despite regular contact with Western society. These communities persist in the interstices of globalization, demonstrating remarkable resilience, political autonomy, and strong social cohesion. In this talk, I will provide an overview of the current situation of some of these groups—such as the Nukak, Hotï, and Awa—with whom I have conducted ethnoarchaeological research. I will examine how they adapt and survive in a rapidly shrinking rainforest environment, and reflect on the lessons we can learn from their experiences and traditional knowledge.
