DESCRIPTION:What can we learn from the tropical rainforest hunter-gatherer
 s of South America?\n\nStill today\, there are Indigenous hunter-gatherer
groups living in the tropical rainforests of South America who maintain tr
aditional lifeways despite regular contact with Western society. These com
munities persist in the interstices of globalization\, demonstrating remar
kable resilience\, political autonomy\, and strong social cohesion. In thi
s talk\, I will provide an overview of the current situation of some of th
 ese groups—such as the Nukak\, Hotï\, and Awa—with whom I have conduc
ted ethnoarchaeological research. I will examine how they adapt and surviv
e in a rapidly shrinking rainforest environment\, and reflect on the lesso
ns we can learn from their experiences and traditional knowledge.
