From 28 to 31 October, members of our department took part in the workshop ‘Economic Worlds of Early Medieval Power Structures: Heterarchy as the Key to Rethinking Exchange and Power’ led by Dr Luigi Pinchetti at Villa Vigoni on Lake Como.

The workshop offered exciting insights into current research approaches to economic and social networks in the early Middle Ages. The event was accompanied by intensive discussions and a lively academic exchange between the participants.

At the same time, Villa Vigoni hosted the Autumn School in European Studies 2025 – organised in collaboration with the Istituto della Enciclopedia Italiana Treccani and Fudan University (Shanghai) – entitled ‘Multilateralism in the Post-Global World. Nations, Politics and International Relations’.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to Villa Vigoni and the Montag Foundation for their hospitality and support!
