Cantos ancestrales y comunitarios en Argentina

Towns, communities and their people have always been singing, humanity is manifested, traced, and told through song, their voices, and their music. Knowledge is a seed that is sown between the territories and their landscapes, in an intimate and unique fabric that each community fills with meanings, and is shared and given life through the voice and its songs.

Charla | Talk

The talk is about the work I have done with my fellow ethnomusicologists in the municipality of Termas de Villa Vil, in the Province of Catamarca, between the years 2019 and 2023. As members of the Music Team of the Rural Community Museum of Barranca Larga, we relieve in the communities, a prevailing need to activate musical memories, mainly singing with a drum box. We carry out projects that try to respond to local demands: works of compilation of the copla, drum box-building workshops for the new generations and audiovisual productions on women copleras, and mobile sound museum are some of them.

Taller | Workshop

In this workshop where we will work on the body from a sensitive perspective, we’ll seek to get closer to the languages of the mountains, the jungle, and the bush. Inhabiting bodies and territories through ancestral songs, evoking and bringing us closer to the experience of being crossed by other languages, other sounds, and movements.

We will work: Singing rounds with drum box: community songs from the Argentine Northwest
region in Quichua, Qom and Guaraní songs: Northeast region of Argentina.

• The round: sacred space
• The inner voices: memory, knowledge and territory
• Inhabit the body: space for expansion and deep listening
• Sound Memories
• The ancestral Latin American voices

No previous experience is required.
