From August 7th to 18th, 2023, a team composed of Tacana, Tsimane, and Mosetén community researchers, some Macahua residents, and experts from the University of Bonn conducted LiDAR mapping and archaeological excavations in the area known as the "Fort of Ixiamas," called "Las Ruinas" by the Macahua inhabitants.

The planning of the work was carried out in several previous meetings, where the community and the researchers agreed on the research questions that archaeology should jointly address. Issues such as the site's temporality, functionality, and cultural affiliation were highlighted. The project's logistics were particularly complicated, as it involved moving the entire team to the site, located in an elevated and difficult to access area. In this place, a camp was set up to carry out the work, which was mainly focused on recording the perimeter walls that make up the site and the relationship of the existing buildings with other features that help to delimit the history of the place.
