Between August 21st and September 8th, 2023, archaeological excavations were carried out in the community of Santa Rosa de Maravillas, at the request of the Indigenous Council of the Tacana People. The team consisted of Tacana community researchers, and archaeologists from the Universities of Bonn and Mayor de San Andrés. Previous LiDAR mapping revealed stone walls in the vicinity, initially discovered accidentally by the inhabitants prior to the LiDAR application.
Excavations were carried out in two units, focusing on the identification of characteristics that would allow clarifying relevant aspects for the community, such as cultural affiliation, temporality and functionality of the findings. Special emphasis was placed on the recognition of the structures, whether walls or foundations, that make up the archaeological site, as well as on the identification of the constructive characteristics of these walls.
